Run as though to get the prize

Last weekend, several of the kids participated in a local road race. Many of you know that David enjoys running and often will run in road races. David found out that there was a race very close so he asked the kids if they would like to run it. 4 of the 5 participated in some way. Abby and Keenan ran in the one mile fun run and both finished in under 8 minutes!! Wow! They were both 2nd place, Abby for the girls and Keenan for the boys. Rachel wanted to run the 5K despite the blisters she had gotten a few days earlier from a practice run. She worked very hard and pushed herself to finish! She was first place in her age group. David pushed Micah in the jogging stroller and ran with Rachel for encouragement. She told he after the race that it was hard and that she was glad that Daddy was with her or she would have quit. Isn't that life sometimes, too. It's hard and painful. But we have Jesus to run along side as an encourager. And we need each other in this race of life too. "So run in such a way to get the prize," like Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 9. Don't forget to encourage some else along the way. And don't forget to look to Jesus. He will give you the strength you need to "run and not be weary."

The pictures are from the pre-race, the warm- up (notice Micah trying to do push-ups no matter what every one else is doing:), David, Micah and Rachel finishing the 5K, and Abby and Keenan finishing the one mile race.
